The Taj Mahal, built over a 22-year period as a tomb for the fifth Mughal's emperor's wife, stands amids acres of gardens on the Yamuna River in Agra. According to popular history, Shah Jahan, born in 1592, met Arjumand Banu, the daughter of his father's prime minister, at a bazaar when he was 14 and she was 15, when he was still Prince Khurram.
