Thank god my north neighbors, Ed and Frances Van, are so wonderful. We share a small driveway at the end of a private road off Norfolk. Today we've sliced into the pavement to locate the electrical service to get power to the site, and we found all kinds of interesting things underground, including an old sewer clean-out, water, gas, and sewer. This neighborhood was leveled in the 1991 Oakland Fire, and some of the old lines are still underground. Even though there may be new service, it's sometimes hard to tell what's old and what's currently in use. The utility companies sure don't know. This should be over and done by Friday.
